We Have the Right to Be Here: Women Challenge the New Immigration Laws
💻 Webinar – link coming soon.
📅 Date: Tuesday 9 December
🕧 Time: 12:30 – 2:00 PM
📍 Location: Online Webinar (Zoom link to follow)
Women seeking asylum are facing more cruel and draconian legal changes. These proposals will make refugee status temporary, cut essential support, restrict appeals and family reunion, and increase the risk of deportation.
All African Women’s Group has spoken out about the rise in racism since the summer. Now, these changes threaten to make immigrants and people of colour—regardless of their status—even more of a target.
Join us as women speak about how these proposals will affect our safety, our lives, our children and our communities.
We’ll speak about:
· Temporary refugee status and reduced leave to remain
· Waiting 20 years for settlement and “earning” the right to stay
· Cuts to asylum support and new obligations to work
· Faster, restricted appeals
· No automatic family reunion and high financial barriers
· Increased raids, digital ID checks, detention, and deportations
